Have you ever had to give a pitch? Was it for school or work? Have you ever met anyone who you needed to impress with your quick and professional words? This week we'll be going over how to prepare and deliver the perfect pitch.

In this session, its all about being Impromptu! We're going to practice some ways in which we can speak with or without preparation on any topic under the sun.

We’re getting a bit technical this week, folks. For Shining Scribes volume 13, we’ll review dependent and independent clauses, and work with the savvy subordinate conjunctions that make sense of the whole thing.

In this three-hour interactive workshop you will find out: what the strongest position to be in before a negotiation is; how to prepare; how to build relationships in negotiation; what your negotiation style is; how to develop negotiation mastery; how to avoid giving discounts or giving in too easily.

The workshop is aimed at providing University faculty staff who teach English Language courses or courses in English with a unique opportunity to hone practical skills for ELT with a special emphasis on developing writing skills.

Writers use parallel structure to emphasize, contrast, and connect ideas. This week we’ll be using it—and using it well!— our first session of the new year. Join us if you have a moment to nurture your craft.

We will interview and write brief stories about one another; craft a character sketch in response to a song; and use the starting cue from an iconic ‘confessional’ poem to write letters to persons of your choice. 

Join us for the America House Writing Workshop, a four-part course in which we will work on academic, business and creative writing, as well as pre-writing and editing strategies.

Providing evidence to support your views is a crucial aspect of good writing. Whether it’s a Statement of Purpose for a job application, or a Reader Response Essay to gain entrance into a college, as writers of these we need to be able to clearly express our point of view, and give reasons, details, and examples to support it.

Our focus here is on business English writing. We will discuss, identify, and craft effective resumes and correspondences. With an analysis of audience, we will refine our understanding of tone and register as a means of establishing ourselves professionally.

That’s right this week in WE@AH we will all be playing the part of journalists as we interview one another and share our findings with the group.
