American cities are often identified with a particular style of music. As we all can agree, New Orleans is famous for jazz and zydeco; Memphis is known for rhythm and blues (and Elvis); Seattle for grunge. And, of course, New York’s jazz scene is second to none. But can you associate Detroit with any kind of musical genre? Let’s find out together what makes “the Detroit sound.”
According to John Engstrom, there is a distinct edge to Detroit’s music scene - it has pushed the boundaries of several musical genres, including blues, gospel, soul, jazz, rock, rap and techno. Join us for a presentation that digs deeper into the unique aspects of Detroit’s music.
