Let’s make it clear first. Hiking is not walking. Hiking is sort of adventure, it is amazing exercise, it can be social and even quite educational. Oh, and two more – it is romantic and relaxing. Perfect for those who want to recharge or get fit, or both.
There are hundreds of hiking trails in the U.S. and Ukraine. We’ll have a chance to talk to Amy and Trishadee who just got back from Pacific Crest Trail and Appalachian Trail, respectively. They have exciting stories to tell as well as unveil the extensive preparation they did before embarking on these long-distance hikes.

About Amy and Trishadee:
Amy McGoldrick is an avid long distance hiker and marathon runner. Amy started hiking while serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer English teacher in Crimea. Since then, she has completed many long distance trails, including most recently the 4,270km Pacific Crest Trail. She has completed 18 marathons and ultra-trails and enjoys running in different cities in Ukraine. She is looking forward to exploring more of the Carpathian mountains and recently climbed to the top of Mt. Hoverla. Amy enjoys travelling and her goal is to visit every country in Europe.
Trishadee Newlin is a musician, herbalist, and teacher from Long Island, New York. Much of her family lives in or near the Appalachian mountains, so it has always been a part of her life. She started hiking at the age of 38 when an injury forced her to give up running. After training in the mountains of Colorado for 2 years, she took her first steps on the Appalachian trail in 2015, and completed her first long section hike in 2019. She has also been hiking in Germany, Switzerland, and Albania, and hopes to add a trip to the Carpathians while she is in Ukraine.
