Wednesday English @America House: Writing Dancing

How do we see and record movement? What words do you draw on to illustrate motion? How do you express the feeling of dancing? In what ways do you respond physically to verbal prompts?

In English, the roots of the word choreography mean “writing dancing.” Continuing their research into a physicalized exploration of the process of translation, and on the heels of their recent four-city tour across Ukraine, choreographers Peter Kyle (USA) and Anton Ovchinnikov (Ukraine) will conduct an open choreographic process workshop at America House Kyiv. Ovchinnikov will guide and invite workshop participants to conduct and exchange their own written and kinetic explorations of movement. Kyle will join the workshop via videoconference from the United States, complicating the process by introducing a necessarily mediated, real-time exchange, something that is increasingly common in our 21st Century lives. Stimulating conversation will follow. No prior experience is required.

The event will be held by Peter Kyle (from the USA), Anton Ovchinnikov (Ukraine).

Remember to bring your passport or driver's license.
