Introducing Poetry in the Garden, a new summer series at America House Kyiv. Join us in AHK’s peaceful Urban Garden to enjoy English-language poetry as the sun sets. Led by AH English Language Resident Charles St. Pierre, each session will explore themes like love, travel, and loss through poetry.
This session of Poetry in the Garden will be unlike any of our previous sessions, as this session’s focus will be poetry in translation. In honor of Ukrainian Independence Day, we will be reading Lesya Ukrainka’s seminal Contra Spem Spero. We will analyze how poems are translated from one language to another and exactly what gets lost in that translation.
Poetry in the Garden will be every other Thursday at 6:30 PM. Let the calm of our garden inspire your love for poetry and community.
Attendance and participation are free. You just need to let us know if you’re coming by registering for the event in advance. We’ll save you a spot and keep you posted about any changes.
📍 The deadline to register is August 21st at 12 PM.
The event will take place at America House Kyiv (Mykoly Pymonenka Street 6.) Please familiarize yourself with the rules of admission before your visit. Remember to bring your passport or driver’s license to enter America House Kyiv.
See you soon!
