Poetry in the Garden With Charlie: Poems of Love and Longing

  • America House Kyiv 6 Mykoly Pymonenka Street Kyiv, 02000 Ukraine (map)

Introducing Poetry in the Garden, a new summer series at America House Kyiv. Join us in AHK’s peaceful Urban Garden to enjoy English-language poetry as the sun sets. Led by AH English Language Resident Charles St. Pierre, each session will explore themes like love, travel, and loss through poetry.

During our second session, we will discuss poems of love and longing. For as long as poetry as existed, poets have used the form to explore the great mysteries of love and desire, these blissful and frightful feelings. Our discussion will start with W.H. Auden's The More Loving One. Auden, a one-time Nobel Prize candidate, was both lauded and controversial in his time. Born in Britain but moving to America at a young age, his poetry engaged with powerful themes such as politics, morals, love, and religion, all in his signature ironic and satiric style.

Experience Poetry in the Garden will be every Thursday at 7 PM. Let the calm of our garden inspire your love for poetry and community.

Attendance and participation are free. You just need to let us know if you’re coming by registering for the event in advance. We’ll save you a spot and keep you posted about any changes.

📍 The deadline to register is July 17th by 12:00 PM.

The event will take place at America House Kyiv (Mykoly Pymonenka Street 6.) Please familiarize yourself with the rules of admission before your visit. Remember to bring your passport or driver’s license to enter America House Kyiv.
