Dave Grossman, a combat expert, internationally recognized scholar, author, soldier, and speaker, who is one of the world’s foremost experts in the field of human aggression and the roots of violence and violent crime. His books “On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society” and “On Combat: The Psychology and Physiology of Deadly Conflict in War and in Peace” have recently been translated into Ukrainian and published by “Astroliabiia” Publishing House, with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv. These books are now part of the “Commander’s Library,” a collection aimed at enhancing the professional development of military personnel.
Together with Dave, we will explore how individuals, especially service members, build psychological resilience in high-stress situations and learn about innovative training techniques that enhance the capabilities of armed forces and mental strategies that allow them to adapt and perform effectively during combat. Dave will discuss violence, not only in combat scenarios but also within broader societal contexts - what drives violent behavior, and how can we understand and address it.

About the author:
Col. Grossman is a former West Point psychology professor, Professor of Military Science, and an Army Ranger who has combined his experiences to become the founder of a new field of scientific research, which has been termed “killology.” In this new field Col. Grossman has made revolutionary new contributions to our understanding of killing in war, the psychological costs of war, the root causes of the current "virus" of violent crime that is raging around the world, and the process of healing the victims of violence, in war and peace.
Col. Grossman is an Airborne Ranger infantry officer, and a prior-service sergeant and paratrooper, with a total of over 23 years' experience in leading U.S. soldiers worldwide. He retired from the Army in February 1998 and has devoted himself full-time to teaching, writing, speaking, and research.
He is the author of over 10 books, including bestsellers “On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society” and “On Combat: The Psychology and Physiology of Deadly Conflict in War and in Peace”, that are on the required reading list in the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as in federal and local law enforcement academies. His research has been cited in a national address by the President of the U.S., he has testified before the Senate and Congress, and he has been invited twice to the White House to brief the President and Vice President.

Ці книги тепер є частиною «Бібліотеки командира», спрямованої на підвищення професійного розвитку військовослужбовців.
Під час лекції Дейв поділиться інсайтами щодо того, як військовослужбовці розвивають психологічну стійкість в умовах високого стресу, які психологічні стратегії допомагають їм адаптуватися та ефективно виконувати завдання під час бойових дій, а також про інноваційні методи навчання, що сприяють підвищенню можливостей збройних сил. Також ми розглянемо тему насильства не лише в бойових сценаріях, але й у широкому соціокультурному контексті.
