During the event, we will talk about Sophia’s career path and discuss the versatile interpretations of beauty in the modern world. We will also explore beauty as a symbol of resilience for Ukrainians which was highlighted in Sophia’s recently published article about beauty in wartime and the role beauty salons play while continuing to operate during the challenging period. We will dive into how beauty salons have become symbols of hope, self-care, and normality in the face of war. Through this lens, the conversation will explore the intersection of beauty, mental health, and community strength.

About the speaker:
Originally from New York, she began her career at Condé Nast, first at Glamour and then at Allure where she remained for almost a decade. As the magazine’s beauty editor and then digital beauty director, Sophia not only wrote extensively about the beauty industry and reported from backstage at New York, Milan, and Paris fashion weeks, but she also directed the brand’s digital strategy and oversaw the online execution of its hallmark Best of Beauty franchise.
In 2019 she moved to London where she held roles at POPSUGAR UK and Farfetch. She is now a freelance writer and consultant, working with prestigious brands like Pat McGrath Labs.
As an American of Ukrainian heritage, since the full-scale invasion she has used her platform to help raise awareness around the war in Ukraine, from rallying beauty brands to donate products for refugees entering the UK to reporting on the state of Ukraine’s salon industry for Allure.
