Sign-up to attend an in-person writing workshop at America House Kyiv from American non-profit organization Warrior Writers. Together with a group of participants, you’ll explore writing as a tool to put your thoughts on paper, share experiences to build community, and find ways to navigate current realities. This workshop is open to all Ukrainians, whether veteran or civilian. No writing experience is required.
Attendance and participation are free because all opportunities from America House Kyiv are free. You just need to let us know if you’re coming by registering for the event in advance. We’ll save you a spot and keep you posted about any changes.

The event will take place at America House Kyiv (Mykoly Pymonenka Street 6.) Please familiarize yourself with the rules of admission before your visit. Remember to bring your passport or driver’s license to enter America House Kyiv.
America House Kyiv is partnering to deliver an in-person writing workshop with Warrior Writers — a U.S. national non-profit with a mission to create a culture that articulates veterans’ experiences, build a collaborative community for artistic expression, and bear witness to war and the full range of military experiences.
The Warrior Writers writing workshop is for all Ukrainians regardless of experiences with writing, combat, or other forms of artistic expression. The workshop will be held in English, and the facilitator will have a Ukrainian-speaking assistant. Participants are encouraged to write and complete activities part of the workshop in any language they feel comfortable in. The number of available spots for participants is limited.
This workshop will encourage sharing stories and ideas for productive writing, reflecting and story-telling. A highlight of these workshops for many is having a space to process thoughts and emotions among others who understand, creating a sense of empowerment in the ability to tell their own story. By creating an open and accepting atmosphere, WW builds a community of support, offering the chance to connect with others through shared experiences, joint learning, and creative expression.
Meet the facilitator:
Jenn Tuero (JT) Blatty is a photojournalist (Redux Pictures) and the author of Snapshots Sent Home: From Afghanistan, Iraq, and Ukraine – A Memoir (forthcoming title, Elva Resa Publishing, Feb 2024). She graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2000 and served six years as an active-duty US Army officer, deploying with the first troops into Afghanistan following 9/11 and again into Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. After serving in the military, she pursued freelance photography and writing as a career. She has spent the last five years in Ukraine, covering volunteer soldiers fighting to preserve their country’s democracy, and received a 2021-2022 Ukraine Fulbright scholarship to finish Snapshots Sent Home, while continuing her photojournalistic work in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Her work has garnered international attention.

Воркшоп Warrior Writers призначений для всіх українців, незалежно від їхнього бойового чи мистецького досвіду. Мова спілкування під час сесії англійська, але фасилітатори матимуть україномовного асистента. Учасники вільні писати та виконувати завдання в рамках воркшопу комфортною для них мовою.
Мета воркшопів Warrior Writers – надати простір та інструменти для розкриття власного письменницького голосу. Це можливість поділитися своїми думками, емоціями та історіями з однодумцями, які переживають схожий досвід. Створюючи атмосферу прийняття, WW будують спільноту взаємопідтримки.
Познайомся з фасилітаторкою:

Вона закінчила Військову академію США у Вест-Пойнті у 2000 році і шість років служила офіцером діючої армії США, відправившись з першими військами до Афганістану після 11 вересня, а потім до Іраку під час операції "Іракська свобода". Після служби в армії вона почала займатися фотографією та письменницькою діяльністю як фрілансер. Останні п'ять років вона провела в Україні, висвітлюючи діяльність солдатів-добровольців, які борються за збереження демократії у своїй країні, і отримала стипендію імені Фулбрайта в Україні на 2021-2022 роки для завершення роботи над книгою "Знімки, надіслані додому", водночас продовжуючи фотожурналістську роботу в Донецькій і Луганській областях. Її робота привернула міжнародну увагу.
