In the United States, a wide range of holidays is celebrated throughout the year, which reflects the multicultural background of the country and the uniqueness of each tradition. Together with Scott Whitmore, we`ll go live to talk about how people from all over the US and all kinds of background make their spirits brighter in the winter period. Of course, we can`t leave without special attention some of the informal Winter Holidays traditions that you can see almost in every American movie! Starting from home decorations with bright lights to baking gingerbread cookies and Christmas Carols – Scott will share his own family traditions and the ways in which they create their festive holiday spirit!

Information about speaker:
Scott Whitmore is the Assistant Cultural Affairs officer at US Embassy Kyiv arrived in August 2020. He has also worked in Warsaw, Poland; Halifax, Canada; São Paulo, Brazil; Baku, Azerbaijan; and Tbilisi, Georgia as part of the Foreign Service. Prior to joining the U.S. State Department, Scott was a high school teacher in Chelsea, MA, a city close to Boston and an arrival point for many new immigrants to America. Scott also worked in Moscow and studied in St. Petersburg, Russia. He speaks Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, and Portuguese and enough Georgian to order from a menu or get in trouble.
