American Lit Club: David Foster Wallace

We’re headed for the high seas this week with the late, great genius David Foster Wallace! In ‘Shipping Out’ (1996), his brilliant, hilarious, challenging essay, Wallace gives us a granular, inside take on the purported pleasures of a Seven-Night Caribbean Cruise. It would be impossible to overstate Wallace’s immense influence on modern American literature, and this was the essay that first put him on the map.

The essay is here (though we’ll only be reading the first half of it this week).
