Beef
Popular American comedian, Ali Wong won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television for her performance in Beef. The show features Asian American characters whose actions are centered around a plot based on a road rage conflict. Wong’s costar, Steven Yeun won for for his performance as a male actor in the same type of category as Wong. Beef was recognized with an award for its excellence as a limited series.
Barbie
Barbie, a film based on the childrens’ doll of the same name, offers a feminist critique of patriarchal social structures. In the film, the Barbie doll serves as the protagonist who must save her idyllic doll world by venturing outside into the human universe. There, she is shocked to encounter patriarchy and returns to the Barbie world to see that patriarchy has leaked into her own reality. Barbie received immense acclaim from audiences and was recognized with an award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement at the Golden Globes. One of the film’s songs, What Was I Made For? earned the sibling duo who worked on it–Billie Eilish and FINNEAS–an additional Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
The Bear
The Bear, winner of Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy, follows the efforts of a culinary chef to manage his family’s sandwich shop after the death of his brother. Series leads, Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri won for their performances as Male Actor and Female Actor, respectively, for the category.
Succession
Succession, winner of the Best Television Series - Drama, is about a wealthy business mogul who is losing touch with his ability to maintain his wealth. His children fight for control of it in order to salvage his crumbling empire. Succession stars, Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook took home performance awards for Male Actor and Female Actor in a Television Series - Drama. Likewise, Matthew Macfadyen won for his performance as a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television for his work in the show.
